LIFE AFTER MY MOM'S STROKE
When my sister Becky was 10 and I was 4, our mom was diagnosed with four brain aneurysms. She underwent two surgeries to treat them—the second one triggered a hemorrhagic stroke, leaving her mentally and physically disabled. As a result, Becky and I grew up prematurely. We often took care of our mother, as if we were her guardians. Later this week, Becky reflects on the difficulties and traumas of witnessing our mother’s deterioration at such a young age.
